Police investigating an attempted robbery in Gloucester last week are appealing for witnesses to help them trace the offender.

The incident happened at the newsagents’ shop in Newton Avenue on Monday, 29 January.

At about 6.20pm a man entered the shop carrying a machete and told a male member of staff to hand over cigarettes.

The member of staff refused and verbally challenged the offender who left the shop empty handed.

The member of staff was not injured.

The offender is described as a white man, 6ft 2ins tall and of slim build. He was wearing a denim jacket and a balaclava.

Anyone who saw him, or has any information about the incident, is asked to call Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101 or email 101@gloucestershire.pnn.police.uk quoting incident 337 of 29 January.
