Italian restaurant Settebello has been granted permission to sell alcohol and play live and recorded music despite concerns over noise.
A premises licence for the new restaurant at Belgrave House in Imperial Square was approved by Cheltenham Borough Council last night (October 2).
FGLT Ltd has been granted permission to sell and supply alcohol every day from 10am to 2am at the former Pizza Express site.
They are also allowed to have live and recorded music played at the venue every day from 11pm to 2am.
The restaurant will also be allowed to provide late night refreshments every day from 11pm to 2am.
Environmental health officers had objected to the plans amid concerns it would cause a nuisance to nearby residents.
However the committee felt it was not the type of premises that “was going to be a nightclub”.
“It is a high class restaurant and the music is commensurate with the food they are going to be providing,” council solicitor Vikki Fennell tol the licensing sub-committee.
“The applicant has offered that there will be no live music in the conservatory and no amplified music after midnight.
“The committee also asked for no recycling to be done before 7am and after 9pm given the likely noise disturbance.
“When any regulations are met, all windows and doors should be closed after 11pm.
“The committee can understand why there is the objection from environmental health.
“But it would seem to be irrational to go for anything other than the 2am requested by the applicant given that a premises of a similar nature directly opposite has been granted this time by the committee just under a year ago.”
The committee voted unanimously to grant the premises licence.
