Temporary public toilets will be provided in a Gloucestershire town next week which was facing the prospect of no public conveniences for three months.
Forest of Dean District Council is refurbishing the Lewell Street toilets which are near the lake in Newent.
But serious concerns were raised earlier this month that no portable toilets were being provided while the refurbishment works are undertaken.
But now the Town Council has agreed to provide some for the duration of the works.
A town council spokesperson said: “Newent Town Council is pleased to announce that temporary public toilet facilities will be made available to serve residents and visitors while the existing public toilets undergo refurbishment.
“This initiative is supported by the Forest of Dean District Council, Newent Business Club, Buses4us and Newent and District Rotary Club, to ensure continued access to essential facilities during the refurbishment.
“We understand the importance of accessible public amenities for everyone visiting and residing in Newent.
“We envisage the temporary facilities will be available from November 5, 2024 and remain in place until the refurbishment is completed.”
