This section is all about the city of Gloucester and it’s marvelous history. That should read …..and its marvellous history – no apostrophe and double ‘l’.

The city had it’s fair share of celebrities and Royals in the past.  No apostrophe required.

Gloucester  also boasts it’s own poet, Ivor Gurney .  No apostrophe required.

Gloucester has 2 famous Grammar Schools for boys, The Crypt and Sir Thomas Rich’s and 2 for Girls, Denmark Road and Ribstone Hall.  It is Ribston Hall – no ‘e’.

This little nursery rhyme was a comment on the awful state of Gloucester’s roads. Legend has it that during a visit by Edward 1st, his horse sank into the deep mud in a city street and he then refused to ever return.

Dr. Forcester went to Gloucester in a shower of rain,

He stepped in a puddle,right up to his middle and never was heard of again

When I was a child we said

“Dr Foster went to Gloucester in a shower of rain,

He stepped in a puddle right up to his middle and never went there again”.
