Ashton House B&B
A warm welcome from Ashton House B&B – a listed 17th century former farmhouse, ideal for walkers and visitors. We are situated in the middle of the village of Painswick on the Cotswold Way, a short walk from a number of quality pubs and restaurants.
Painswick, the “Queen of the Cotswolds”, is a picturesque medieval wool town, built in a mellow Cotswold stone quarried locally. The narrow streets are full of interest. The 15th Century post office building is the oldest in the country. The church, with its famous tombs and 99 yew trees, bears battle scars on the tower from the Civil War. We boast the oldest village rugby club, the oldest bowling green, and the oldest post office building in England.
There are plenty of shopping, recreational and visitor opportunities close to hand. These include the Rococo Gardens, Prinknash Bird & Deer Park, Laurie Lee (“Cider with Rosie”) country, horse riding, dry-slope skiing and gliding. Village events include the nationally-noted Art Couture Festival, Painswick Apple Day, and the famous “clypping” ceremony.
The Cotswold Way national trail is literally on the doorstep, and there are numerous other footpaths to explore in the surrounding countryside.
We are a good base for many local events, such as the Cheltenham Festivals, Three Choirs, Gatcombe, polo at Cirencester, cheese-rolling etc.
