Welcome to Peewit House, a large Cotswold country house with spacious light rooms, extensive gardens and open views sleeping 12 in the main house.
The accommodation has a private flower and lawned garden with seating, picnic tables and barbeque,
ideal for summer breaks. Blackpitt is also charming in winter. Something we recommend is getting up early
on a frosty morning when everything is still and quiet, when the roads are empty and the birds are singing
in the hedgerows. As you tramp along the crispy ground you can see your breath in the cold air, it is these moments that capture the precious secrets of the Gloucestershire countryside.
Welcome to the Horse & Groom, Upper Oddington
The Horse & Groom, Upper Oddington is a quintessential English Country Village Inn, dating back to 1580. This Grade II Listed Cotswold stone inn is full of character with exposed stone-walls, flagstone and oak floors, hefty beams and roaring fires and from its early days as a simple hostelry it has been updated without losing its wonderful charm.
A privately owned and operated Freehouse with open log fires, a bar, large dining area, outside terrace and beer garden, complete with a large private car park. The Horse & Groom is a great place to relax, eat, drink and indeed stay overnight with a guaranteed warm and friendly welcome from owners, Simon and Sally Jackson.
Featured in The Good Pub Guide, Alastair Sawday’s Special Places, Good Beer Guide, Michelin Guide to Pubs, amongst others, this ‘Little Gem in the Cotswolds’ is situated in the beautiful conservation village of Oddington and in an area of outstanding natural beauty, 1.5 miles east of Stow on the Wold, close to Cheltenham, Cirencester, Woodstock, Oxford, Stratford upon Avon and Warwick.
Dogs are welcome in the bar, restaurant and garden but regrettably not in the bedrooms.

Some years ago Gerry Tyack opened his small museum dedicated to all those who served or who passed through RAF Moreton-in-Marsh, on one of the many training courses for RAF bomber command. Though the airfield is now a fire training station Gerry keeps the memory of the base alive in the museum with his vast range of artifacts from the war years and beyond. Gerry was also successful in getting the memorial plaque errected outside the old entrance a few years ago.
As you pull up outside the museum you will see propellers and wheels from the aircraft most used at Moreton-in-Marsh, the Vickers-Armstrong Wellington, there is also a casing for the 4000lb bombs dropped by the aircraft, around the back in his garden there is the whole tail section of one aircraft, showing the famous Barnes Wallis designed geodetic structure which made the aircraft so strong and easy to repair.
RAF Moreton-in-Marsh was one of many flight training stations and large numbers of crews passed through, Gerry has an interest in contacting anyone who recalls times at the station and has numerous books and paintings signed by past personnel, many of the items are donated to the museum from families of, or people stationed there.
The museum has numerous wonderful prints for sale including a view of the market square in Moreton on Normandy Embarkation day in 1944.

We are a Registered Charity set up to nurse patients in their own home through the last stage of illness and to support their families.
How did it start?
Kate King, a resident of Stow who died in 1995, became aware of the lack of nursing care available to patients wishing to die at home and challenged her nurses and doctors to do something about it.
Who qualifies for this?
When patients have been told that they are dying and have expressed the wish to be at home where this is possible, their GP or District Nurse can ask us to provide nursing for them, working with other home nursing services. Our patients are generally referred to us through the GP surgeries in Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Northleach, Burford and Winchcombe and we also work with sister charities in looking after patients in the Moreton area.
Why does a local Charity have to do this?
The NHS provides nursing care at home through the District Nursing Service, but is not resourced to provide nurses to stay with patients. Our rural locality reduces the ability of the larger national charities to help. Kate’s Home Nursing fills this gap in provision with its high quality ‘hospice at home’ care.
The Righton family have been farming at Dorn for 3 generations. In 2002 we moved into the farmhouse with our children Sam and Meg, dogs BB and Bluey and horses taking over from Simon’s parents John and Sheila. The 300 acre tenant farm is just to the north of Moreton-in-Marsh and forms part of the Batsford Estate.
We breed sheep, cattle and our very own Glamrock pigs (half Gloucestershire Old Spot, quarter Hampshire and quarter Duroc) as well as producing cereals to sell and hay and silage to feed to the stock over the winter months. We opened the Farm Shop in 2004 to sell our home reared meats and free range eggs.
Part of the farm has been entered into the Countryside Stewardship Scheme (CSS) which benefits wildlife by creating and preserving habitats through over-wintered stubble, hedge planting/laying and field margins. We have an area of “arable reversion” as there are Roman remains under one of our fields. This has now been grassed over to protect what lies beneath and we only use minimum tillage on the surrounding area.
We have a small flock of free-range hens to provide fresh eggs for the shop and B&B. Surplus eggs are sold through Blockley Village Shop.
We also run a B&B in the farmhouse which dates back to the 15th Century and a small campsite in one of the fields next to the farm.

Lindy has always painted. From sketches of friends at school, to a career in still life, trompe-l’oeil and watercolours.
In 1999 she realised that her greatest passion, the place where she felt most fulfilled, was painting people. Later that same year she started portraiture training at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy.
On returning, she tucked away her watercolours, dusted off her oils, and has been painting commissions and continuing her studies ever since.
Other training highlights include: a diploma in Portraiture at Healthelys, London; studying under six different American masters; and intense courses in anatomy.
Career highlights include:
A recent commission to paint thirty officers of the Irish Guards that was unveiled by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2015.
Winning The President and Vice President Choice Award in 2012 at the Society of Women Artists exhibition Mall Galleries for “Model in New York” for the best painting.
Wychwood Art is an exciting art gallery enabling artists to sell their art directly to buyers.
The artworks are all hand selected by the Director of Wychwood Art, Deborah Allan. Deborah has worked in the international art world for over 15 years, firstly at Christie’s for 11 years as Director of Impressionist, Modern Art, and subsequently at Bonhams for 4 years as European Director of Impressionist and Modern Art giving her invaluable knowledge of the art market. Selling art as an auctioneer to important art collectors has given her great insight into why people buy art and what makes a good work of art.
Wychwood Art Gallery represent some of the U.K’s most exceptional contemporary artists. Artists represented include Darren Baker, the official portrait artist to the Queen in 2011 and the official artist for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Olivier Marc Thomas Leger who has recently won the Lord Attenborough Prize in February 2014. Also represented are three Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition artists Tammy Mackay, Lisa Takahashi, Clova Stuart-Hamilton to name but a few accolades that the artists for Wychwood Art have achieved.
Deborah has noticed a huge demand for good affordable entry level art. Wychwood Art offers a relaxed way for buyers and interior designers to view a wide selection of art works ranging from £25-£7,000 in the comfort of their own home or office, and the opportunity to view a work in their gallery based in the Cotswolds prior to purchasing if they so wish.
Ditchford Mill was bought by David & Gill Graham in 1977 when David gave up flying for British Airways in favour of the country life, producing quality assured pigs for J. Sainsbury.
In June 2003 Gill began to make meals and pies to sell at local W.I. markets, effectively starting Simple Suppers. This enabled direct marketing of their carefully reared pork to the public, exploiting the natural flavour & texture of fresh, stress free pork.
Since then, Simple Suppers has gradually grown to become a well known & respected supplier of the highest quality meat products to both the local catering & retail trades.
The product range has also grown to embrace vegetarian food, snack products & desserts.
A butchery was added to ensure consistently high quality from local sources, pigs from our own farm, slaughtered only four miles away, beef from local farms, and, where possible, vegetables grown within a 10 mile radius.
Our butcher ensures that all the meat used at Simple Suppers is of the highest quality, prepared from prime cuts. We only use ingredients of the highest quality in our pies & ready meals.
Although the business is growing, we are still a very small family company with a small workforce. This enables us to maintain a well monitored and personal service to all our customers whereby it is always possible for a customer to speak to the people preparing their order.

On the 27th April 1961, Colin Blunstone and the 4 other original members of The Zombies met outside The Blacksmith’s Arms, St. Albans, before their very first rehearsal. 55 years later, Blunstone’s still-superb vocals and his rarified arrangements effortlessly recall the band’s lingering legacy. This is the voice that gave us everything from their first single “She’s Not There” to “I Don’t Believe In Miracles”. “She’s Not There” received a “thumbs-up” from George Harrison on the panel of “Juke Box Jury”. “He really liked it,” said Blunstone. It then zoomed to No. 1 in the USA charts in 1964, only the second British USA No.1 after The Beatles .

When we set out to produce our award-winning cheese we wanted it to reflect its place of origin, and we hope that the creamy, fresh taste of our organic Brie range achieves this.
Farming organically in such a beautiful location as the Cotswolds is a wonderful challenge. Milk has been produced at Kirkham Farm for longer than anyone cares to remember – our farm is ideally suited for growing grass, with low-lying river meadows that have never been intensively farmed.
All our Fresian cows feed on grasses grown organically for them here at the farm. We’re very proud of our ’girls’ who work hard everyday to provide milk for the cheese. Every morning the milk travels just five metres from the milking shed to the Creamery, where our expert cheesemakers turn it into a delicious range of artisan products.
We hope you enjoy tasting our cheeses as much as we enjoy making them!

Blockley in Gloucestershire is the home of the Northcot Master Brickmakers. We have been quarrying clay and making bricks here for nearly 100 years. During that time the Northcot brickworks has produced one of the broadest ranges of bricks available, in many variations of colour, texture, size and type. These richly-coloured bricks are made by Master Brickmakers who have hundreds of years of experience between them in the skilled art of brick-making. The bricks they make are used in all types of building projects all over the country.
Northcot is one of the very few brickworks that still takes clay from the same quarry used over the centuries. That clay is thousands of years old. When fired in Northcot’s traditional coal-fired kilns they produce an intense base colour and result in an exciting range of naturally-coloured quality bricks with an enduring finish.

There are plenty of seats from which to enjoy the mill pond and its trout, kingfisher and ducks. It is an exercise in making the most of a difficult and steep sided site. It is also an exercise in creating something beautiful in which to meditate and to nourish the senses
How to define it? An English country garden? Yes, but with fun and surprises: There is the relaxed and tranquil mill pond and grotto, then there are the hidden signs suggesting you go to Stoke on Trent (in the nicest possible way!) and a Fruit Garden with wonderful views over the hills but with gooseberry bushes under which were found the family grandchildren!! The herb potager has plants with medicinal, culinary and pot pourri uses but also aphrodisiacs!
Come and enjoy a Cream Tea by the brook and maybe spot the kingfisher.

The FREEZTEQ® damp proof course system was invented in 1965. It has been used successfully for over forty years to provide a damp proof course to a variety of brick and stone buildings, both in the UK and world-wide. In 1975 FREEZTEQ® was awarded a gold medal at the 4th Salon International des Inventions et des Techniques Nouvelles in Geneva.
FREEZTEQ® is a unique and highly effective damp-proof system which offers several major advantages over other chemical techniques. The damp proof course system is based on siliconate solutions (in the form of circular section, pre-frozen packs called “ice sticks”) which are inserted into holes drilled into the mortar line of the wall to be treated.
The slow-melting system ensures a continuous water-repellent barrier throughout the treated area because the system depends on diffusion, which research has shown to be the most effective method for fluid distribution in masonry. Accurate dosages can be readily achieved. Application costs are thus remarkably low.

In 2016 Border Lines is thirty years old. I am deeply indebted to Clare Whateley for creating Border Lines in 1986 and to Ruth Arnold and Cary Goode for carrying it on so well until it was my turn. I hope that Border Lines will continue to offer you the very best gardens across the world for many years to come. It is perhaps also a good moment to say that we owe the longevity of the company in large measure to the loyalty of our clients, which we do not forget or take for granted. Thank you.
To mark the occasion, I have arranged a very wide-ranging selection of gardens and, as in recent years, one or two interiors. I have seen more wonderful gardens than I can fit into this year’s programme and I am once again hugely grateful to all the owners I have seen over the year for their time and patience and for allowing me to bring groups to see their gardens. Increasingly this also applies to gardens abroad where we have been welcomed with great hospitality this year by owners in Sicily, the Italian Lakes and Normandy. I have been particularly struck by the generosity and kindness of the owners of South African gardens who have opened their very private gardens to two groups in the last couple of years.

In today’s world of multinational conglomerates and faceless superstores it’s wonderful still to be able to deal with a real family business.
In 1919, Bill (F.W.) Cutts, having served in France in the First War as an aircraft engineer, secured employment as a chauffeur/mechanic at The Noel Arms Hotel, Chipping Campden following an engineering background in Nottingham.
F.W. Cutts & Co. was established in 1921. Campden then had five cars to it’s name, four of which belonged to The Noel Arms whom he had just left! Grandfather Cutts thrived in workshops in The Red Lion yard and in 1926 purchased some of the now Cutts of Campden site off the High Street.
He was appointed Morris and Wolsley agent in the 1920’s and later became an MG specialist. He sold and serviced agricultural machinery, employing George Hart, later famous as Jethro in The Archers, as an agricultural representative. He held the franchise for Nuffield Tractors.
Philip and Nancy Cutts took over the business in the 1950’s. Further land and an access into Sheep St had been aquired by then and they saw the period of British Leyland, Leyland Cars and finally Austin Rover. Their son Nicholas, F.W.’s grandson became proprietor on their retirement in 1982. Nicholas saw an opportunity in 1987 to switch to the Ford franchise and has led a successful team since then.
The atmosphere is still one of a long established family business. The staff are like a big family and know the customers and their cars well.
The company not only works together but plays together. The Cutts of Campden Cricket Team play regularly in the area with increasing success. See the Cutts Cricket page

Hayles Fruit Farm covers approximately 100 acres of picturesque countryside on the outskirts of the Cotswold market town of Winchcombe, Gloucestershire. With origins back to 1880 the land, along with 4 other fruit farms on the edge of the town, was initially planted with apples & Cob nuts under the instruction of Lord Sudeley. More than 130 years later Hayles Fruit Farm is the only one to survive!
Farmed by the Harrell family since the 1950’s it has, as you might imagine, seen many changes – not least in the form of diversification. That said the task of growing, producing and marketing top quality fruit remains paramount. Over the years the range of crops grown has been expanded and now includes apples, pears, plums, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries and of course the original Cob Nuts. Whilst the farmshop produces an important outlet for the sale of this produce we also have excellent working relationships with a number of local retail outlets – including Warners Budgens and the Midcounties Co-op – both of whom have for a number of years marketed our goods under their local produce lines.
Here on the farm diversification continues to play a major role. The farmshop offers our visitors some great tasting local produce, a delicious lunch can be enjoyed in the ‘Orchard’ (our Restaurant and Tearoom) and other on-site activities to checkout including a nature trail, Pick Your Own Fruit (in season), clay pigeon shooting and coarse fishing.
Whether you’re just passing through or want to use our campsite as a base from which to explore the fantastic countryside & many local attractions you’re very welcome
