Blackbridge Allotments

1 post in this topic

I noticed a small announcement in yesterday's Citizen:

There is to be a public consultation meeting about the proposed redevelopment of the old Blackbridge Allotment site on Monday, 28th February. It will be held from 3pm till 7pm at Widden Old Boys RFC at the Memorial Ground, Tuffley Avenue.

There is a proposal to build houses on most of the site, but to keep some of it as allotments. The previous plan was to build a doctors' surgery, which was said to be greatly needed in the area. Now the need for a surgery seems to have disappeared, and the need to make money has taken precedence. It is a bad location for housing, right next to Tuffley Junction. I'd also like to see it being used to reduce the waiting list for allotments in Gloucester. However, the site is owned by the county council, rather than the city council, and the county wants to make as much money as possible from selling the site.

If you live near this site, please tell your neighbours about the meeting, as I don't think that it has been very well advertised.
