Empty Stroud High Street shop to be occupied by independent traders until January

1 post in this topic

INDEPENDENT traders will start selling from stalls inside the redeveloped site on Kendrick Street that used to be home to Millets, as a permanent tenant is still not in place.

A sign has appeared on the side of the building saying that stalls inside can be booked between October 20 and January 8.

It says it is for those selling arts, crafts, antiques and collectables.

Caroline Ractliffe from Intrigue of Stroud, based just across from the store, is organising the stalls.

She said: “I have many folk asking to sell their arts and crafts through Intrigue or Mosaic and feel a collective of interesting works, antiques and collectibles, would be perfect for such a lovely shop in one of the best locations in town.

“It will become a destination, initially a magical Christmas woodland.”

Stalls at the shop will cost between £15 and £25 per day for a minimum of 14 days.

There have been possible permanent tenants and suggestions of what the site might become.

In May, there were rumours that it would become a Starbucks, making it the 15th coffee shop in the town centre.

Also Fat Toni's Pizzeria applied for planning permission in February to expand to a bigger restaurant at the site, but those plans fell through.

Andrew Watton Property Consultants are refurbishing the prime spot on the corner of Kendrick Street opposite Greggs.

“It’s been very frustrating, we have had a series of possible tenants, which for one reason or another hasn’t worked out,” said Andrew Watton

“We’ve had three good tenants lined up, national and local businesses, and none have worked out.

“It’s so frustrating because it’s a good shop in a good location, it should have gone two years ago.

“But we will get something in there, even if it’s a temporary let until Christmas.”
