Ransomware thwarted by accident

7 posts in this topic

Hi

Just quick note to say ransomware attack has been thwarted, Guy managed to shut the attack down. Doesn't do anything for those already affected, but at least it stops any new victims from happening.

Co-incidentally, this very issue came up on an episode of 'Chicago Med' only a week or two ago. The attack was stopped when one of the surgeons, the slightly autistic one who also plays Reverend Potter on 'Blue Bloods', payed the three thousand or so dollars ransom, against hospital policy.

I think we'll see more of this kind of thing, as the money to maintain properly updated security falls increasingly short.

No money is needed, just competence. Updates are all free

The NHS has been given about £50m to improve its computer systems, defence minister Michael Fallon says.

Agreed. But locally and nationally, competence is always in short supply, which ends up costing lots of money...

Hi

I agree. How many people have had their lives affected because of this?

If ever we needed proof that there are some evil sick minded people out there............

Thanks
