6 posts in this topic

Plans for a new shop on the site of the former Witcombe Service Station in Grange Road were approved on Tuesday night.

A good use of a brown field site

No-one forces people to shop at Tesco. I personally prefer to shop at farm shops and independent shops where I can be reasonably sure of the provenance of the food and to support the local economy but I can understand why others choose to shop exclusively at supermarkets. Evidently the majority of people do so and I have no wish to force them to change.

The other convenience stores will either retain their customers through loyalty or offering better products and services, or they will fail to do so. In any case it is not possible, nor necessarily desirable, to protect the existing stores from competition. Part of the problem with some of these local shops is that they expect to be protected from competition and do not want to compete.
