  1. We had New Windows and Double Glazing fitted by Severn Windows. last Year and were very Pleased., Although they were neighbours at the time they are still based in Gloucester and Stroud.
  2. Thanks Eddie, Compliments of the Season to you and yours.
  3. Thanks you very much for that prompt and helpful reply Vanda. I really think that there is only either your goodself or Eddie around who can come up with answers to queries / questions etc. around here. Compliments to You and Yours for the coming Season. Regards Jack Daly.
  4. I Wondered if anyone can help me with this query. I live in Quedgeley in a small Cul, de, Sac. of Privately owned houses. At the top of the Drive there are Stop Taps in the ground. though our's was pointed out to us when we bought the Property some years ago we have never had occasion to try and lift this small Iron Lid up. I would not fancy having to do it myself and jus wondered if it was my responsibility or the Water Company ?. They lids are all marked S. T. W.. B.B We have had a stop tap fitted under the sink units so that in the event of a leak we could turn off the water inside. what bothers me is the pipes etc. outside. Any Advice Would Be Welcome.
  5. Thanks very much Vanda for that info. We don't go over to Bath very often as it is so difficult to park but my Brother in Law lives there so he could possibly bring us some next time he visits us. Once again Thankyou. Kind Regards Jack Daly. .
  6. Years ago i lived in Leeds, West Yorkshire and there were quite a few Jewish.Bakers shops that specialised in making their own Bagels ( for anyone not knowing a bagel is a hard round baked piece of bread with a hole in the middle). After living in the West Country whenever t ook my Wife and daughter Jackie up there, they always looked forward to a coffee and a bagel. and I find that nowadays the bagels sold in the Supermarkets here seem to be always stodgy, rather than fresh. I wondered if there is anywhere local that bake their own. They are a delicious item but i would warn anyone that tries a bagel that is useful to have your own teeth. ( Eddie, I think i have put this heading up twice )
  7. There is a Jazz Quintet playing each Third Monday evening at the Dick Whittington on Westgate Glos. Anyone wishing to bring along their instrument or sing is invited to participate between 8pm. and 10pm. These Musicans are quite accomplished but it is a very relaxing evening. The Pub is situated at Number 100 Westgate and as the easiest way to it is to enter past the old Police Station. Hope to see you there. ( P.S. They are actually playing there next Monday 26th. as well )
  8. Thanks Eddie, will give them a call, it does seem all these Companys are quite pricey
  9. We have some trees that need some trimming, perhaps some lopping .they are not Leylandii or anything like that but just do need some attention. I wonder if there is anybody who could be recommended to do this and able to come and give us a quote. Would like to have this done before the Winter. We live on the Green Farm estate, Quedgeley.

  11. Fortunately Joe we do not have that problem, the Dog waste bins and the Litter bins seem to be set quite secure The problem here seems to be getting people to use the litter bins. when I walk the dog each day there are beer cans and water / pop bottles strewn quite near the bins. Periodically I go round with a stick claw and a black bin liner, last time I nearly filled it.
  12. Hurrah, Crisis over. The concrete squares were for the base of a Bench which has now been bolted in. There rumours of the Housing Estate came to nothing except that one has been approved for 175 Houses to be built at Hard wicke only a mile so or so farther down the Bristol Road.
  13. In Quedgeley there is a large grassy area known as the Orchard, This is situated between Sims Lane and the Canal. It is very pretty and is very poular with dog walkers, and children from that area. There are many Apple, trees and Blackcurrant bushes etc. I walk my daughters dog there twice a day and it has always been at the back of my mind that one day the Devolopers might move in and turn this lovely place into a housing estate as seemed to have happened around the perimeters of Gloucester.. In fairness the Council did plant some Saplings a couple of years ago with wire netting to protect them. BUT in the last day or so i have seen four large red and white cones approx. 4ft. high, they have been placed in about a 3 foot square and though they are not concreted in place there is a square of concrete undereath them. Personally i know nothing about civil engineering or how land or ground is estimated to be suitable for building on so perhaps there is someone reading this who is better informed. I can't see what other reason there could be for these cones to suddenly be there. As an alternative perhaps i could contact the Council and ask if someone could steer me in the right direction. P.s. When i take my Grandson to Milestones School over in Longford i shudder to see how many houses that have been built or are in the process on what was a beautiful outlook. The folks living on Longford Lane must be shell shocked at the sheer size of the two estates that have sprung up.
  14. Have lived in Bristol for some years, then moved to Spain but when my daughter and her family decided to come back to Gloucester ( Where she was originally born) we came back to live in Quedgely. have been here for about seven years and always had the same Postman, a really nice fellow and as he has obviously worked for the P.Office for some years he does get a fair bit of Holiday time. My point is that whenever he is away for a week or so his replacement is always either a Pole or from some other Eastern European Country. having some family who have and do work for the Post Office they tell me that being someone who can sort and deliver post to the various districts it is almost certainly a Full time job, not just a quick stand in. So, Finally my point is...... Why is this and other secure jobs there not being filled by a Gloucestershire Lad ? It can't be because they are working for less wages as i.e. Aldi / Lidl Surely a national Company that is supposedly owned by the Public should make sure that any vacancy's are filled by folks from the Public. I am not the Tub Thumping type, it is something that i do feel is wrong. Eddie, If you think i am out of order i shall not be offended by your removal of this, now i have got it off of my chest. Regards Jack Daly.
  15. We are going to the Sherborne Cinema Matinee on Thursday to see "Sully" which is on all week and finishes that day, "Sully" is the True story of the Captain / Pilot Sullenberger landed his Airbus Plane on the river Hudson after only minutes of leaving a New York Airport,, without giving anything more away concerning the story it stars Tom Hanks in the Captains role. As i mentioned in an earlier post this when visiting this delightful little Cinema do wear something warm as for whatever reason it was quite cold the one and only time we have been.
