Brunswick Road Gloucester

Diana Princess of Wales

Like many millions of others, the author of these pages watched the funeral of Diana . At 1.00pm GMT I decided to go into Gloucester . The journey itself was unusual. Normally on a Saturday the roads would be crowded with shoppers, but on this occasion there was virtually nothing. I parked in the multi-storey car park in the centre and was the only person there .

Walking round the City centre was eerie . Apart from a couple of tourists wandering about Westgate Street the entire centre was deserted. Every shop had a card in the window stating that they would not open until 2 PM as a mark of respect. Under normal circumstances the city would be crowded, busy and noisy. The silence was very strange.

It was certainly a unique experience .I don't know how long the link will remain open but http://www.royal.gov.uk/ has a book of condolences for those that would like to contribute.
