No, unfortunatly not, it was taken over/bought out by Heart FM,
Though I guess its a good thing as it means we can use the Severn name without clashing :-)

Severn Sound used to be good before BBC Radio Gloucestershire came along and out-competed them on community broadcasting. I remember what a splendid job they did in December 1981 when Gloucestershire was hit by gales and snowstorms that closed roads and brought down power lines. Nearly everyone had a battery-powered radio and could listen to find out if and when their electricity would be back on. Severn Sound pretty much acted as a co-ordinator for the councils and electricity board, letting them know which roads needed griting or ploughing and where the power lines were down.

What a great day we have had, our coverage is much better than anticipated and even the rain held off for us.
I had the scary prospect of taking part in the Breakfast show, but was brilliant fun.
Neil Carmichael MP came and cut the ribbon and now we are firmly on air at 87.9FM :-)
Now to work out what we are going to do on the show tomorrow morning :-) Tune in from 7am :-)

Re. Severn Sound. I used to do a lot with Andy Radford who won Sony Local Radio Program of the year. He was an Anglican minister, supported by the Bishop. Andy later became a Bishop, somewhere in Devon or Cornwall and died there with a brain problem (from memory).I just happened to see his obituary in the Telegraph. He was a fine communicator and hard task master and taught me a lot.
