BARBECUE chefs need travel no further than Leonard Walker butchers of Nailsworth after it scooped six awards at a top national meat traders’ fair.
The long-established shop in George Street bagged the accolades for its range of speciality sausages at this month’s spring Butchers’ Fair held at Newbury Racecourse.
Among its free range award-winners is its mouthwatering lamb, rosemary, gin and juniper banger, alongside its Malmesbury sausage, pork and apple, Gloucester sausage and chilli and garlic-infused Nailsworth sausage.
Another award went to its pork and apple burger, which is one of a variety of home-made products it proudly creates in-store, including pies and dry-cure bacon.
"It was a great achievement for us," said Stephen Walker, who has worked for the family firm for more than 20 years.
"What with the amount of time and effort we put into it, it was good to come away with something.
"We are always striving to make the perfect sausage so we were delighted to be recognised by the judges."
