Dear Parent/Carer

My name is Grant Harman and I am a qualified Nursery Nurse (Dip EYCE). I also hold a current CRB check and will supply you with excellent references. I have undertaken early years first aid training and am currently qualified up to the level of CFR (First Aid at Work + Oxygen Therapy and Defibrillation) through my work with the St John Ambulance

I have been working with children for the past 6 years and have experience in looking after children from 9 months - teenagers although I feel my area of expertise is probably 2 years+. I have worked in primary and secondary schools, nurseries, playgroups and youth clubs as well as being in charge of summer camps for 50+ children. I have experience in working with children with disabilities particularly autism, challenging behaviour and physical disability. I have babysat for several people and have never had an unsatisfied customer. I am reliable and can guarantee a high quality service. Because of my previous employment by the education department as a teaching assistant I have a good knowledge of the subject matter that KS1 and KS2 are studying and would be more than happy to help with homework or extra tuition during the sit. I have some knowledge of the KS3 syllabus although this is more limited.

Before working for a family I like to meet the parents and the child/ren. This gives you a chance to ask me any questions and for the child/ren and I to meet before the sit. In my experience this lessens any anxieties the child/ren may have about having either a new sitter or even a sitter for the first time. This also gives me a chance to ask you questions about your child's individual needs and any other information I may need to make the sit run as smoothly as possible.

I am currently at university studying childrens nursing and so you would need to contact me with regards to availability. (I am currently working a 3 days on 4 days off week) I am available for babysitting, daytime respite, mothers help and childcare when you just need that extra pair of hands such as sleepovers, birthday party outings etc.

My current rates are £6.50 per hour for up to 2 children and £1 extra per extra child per hour. Maximum of 4 children under 8 and maximum of 8 children under 12 (sole care)

I currently do not drive and so you would need to live within 4 miles of Gloucester town centre, be on a bus route or provide transport. (Driving test Jan 10 & car already under business insurance)

My rates reflect my qualifications and experience and I would not be charging this amount if I did not have as much experience or was not qualified. I am willing to look at discounts on a case by case basis for example for parents on a low income. If your not sure or want to bargain with me over prices please feel free to do so.

Please feel free to contact me with any queries that you may have or to arrange a no obligation interview.

Many thanks

Good luck with your business Grant. It must be a difficult field. I've sent our spider to your site, and the system will send you an email to confirm.

One small point. like many today your site breaks the law by not having a phone number and full address.

As I am running my business from home (not my house) I have not posted the address on the website, however anybody could find it if they were to do a whois search.

What exactly is the law with regards to phone numbers as I am concerned about getting spam phone calls. I provide all parents with a phone number on first contact.

Grant Harman (DipEYCE)

It is a difficult one, so I sympathize, but the law states for business sites

web sites, whether involved in e-commerce or not, should provide the following minimum information, which must be easily, directly and permanently accessible:

The name of the service provider must be given somewhere easily accessible on the site. This might differ from the trading name and any such difference should be explained – e.g. "XYZ.com is the trading name of XYZ Enterprises Limited."
The email address of the service provider must be given. It is not sufficient to include a 'contact us' form without also providing an email address.
The geographic address of the service provider must be given. A PO Box is unlikely to suffice as a geographic address; but a registered office address would. If the business is a company, the registered office address must be included in any event.
If a company, the company's registration number should also be given.
If a company, the place of registration should be stated (e.g. "XYZ Enterprises Limited is a company registered in England and Wales with company number 1234567") though this is a requirement of the Companies Act as from 31st December 2006, not the E-commerce Directive.
If the business is a member of a trade or professional association, membership details, including any registration number, should be provided.
If the business has a VAT number, it should be stated – even if the website is not being used for e-commerce transactions.
Prices on the website must be clear and unambiguous
The Human eye is a wonderful device. With a little effort, it can fail to see even the most glaring injustice.

Hello Grant, I think we've already met...was it you who took some inner tube valves off my hands? Nice to hear that you're carrying on with the childcare!

As a mother and website owner I agree with Eddie about having your address and phone number on your site. Transparency is the key when people are sussing you out and it's also the law.

I think your rates are very reasonable considering your experience. I wouldn't invite people to haggle but that's just my opinion. You aren't selling an item, it's your expertise that people are paying for.

Good luck in your venture.

Hello guys,

I just wanted to thank you for all your advice. Things are going well with the business at the moment. I have 4 customers and have started to grow the business by becoming insured and Ofsted registered so parents can claim money back. I have made the suggested changes to the site and will be reasessing my pricing strategy as soon as the final stages of my registration are complete (voluntary section of childcare register). I have also written a set of policies which are currently being uploaded so exciting times. Hopefully I will continue to grow and be able to support myself through Uni.

Regards,

Grant
