I have had a lot of new emails about our directory today. Most of them are about our spider and links.

First, we are not google and unfortunately we dont have their resources or money, so here is how it works

The "spider" is a script that allows us to input keywords and phrases eg: "gloucestershire hotels"

This software then crawls sites looking for the phrase. On returning the sites if found are placed into a directory that isnt publicly available. It can search the whole page, but only records the Title, thats the bit you see on the blue bar at the top of your browser, and also 2 meta tags - Description and keywords.

This allows us to quickly check the site, place it into the correct category and publish it. We dont have the time or money to change these at this point, but the system does send an email to the site showing the site owner what the listing will look like. The email also tells the owner that they can either create an account to update their own site, o just to email us and we will uppdate it for them.

We are always grateful to sites that link to us - it helps both sites in the end, but we dont ask, and we certainly dont insist on a link for the listing.
