THE father of Amy Winehouse is hosting a night of jazz at The Daffodil in Cheltenham.

Mitch Winehouse will take to the stage for two sets of top class jazz to raise money for the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

The foundation was set up after the death of Amy Winehouse in July last year, aged 27. It supports charitable activities in both the UK and abroad that provide help, support or care for young people, especially those who are in need, by reason of ill health, disability, financial disadvantage or addiction.
Mitch said: “I am really looking forward to visiting Cheltenham and playing at The Daffodil on Tuesday, 1st May. It should be a terrific night and we'll hopefully raise lots of money for The Amy Winehouse Foundation.”
The Mitch Winehouse concert on May 1 is a first for Cheltenham with all profits from the event being donated to The Amy Winehouse Foundation.
The Daffodil was formerly an art décor cinema and retains many of its original features including the giant sweeping staircase and kissing chairs in the Circle Bar, which has a stunning view over the restaurant.
It has gained an enviable reputation for hosting some of the world’s most prolific jazz artists including Jamie Cullum and Kyle Eastwood.
The Mitch Winehouse event will be the prelude for Cheltenham’s Jazz Festival which opens in the town on Wednesday May 2 with The Daffodil hosting live events throughout the week.
The evening will commence with Taittinger Champagne and canapés reception followed by a delicious three course dinner before Mitch takes to the stage for two sets. The concert has been put together by Cheltenham-based jazz pianist, Alex Steele.
Alex said: “I was delighted to receive a call from The Amy Winehouse Foundation earlier this year. They knew that The Daffodil has a reputation as a jazz venue, providing a platform for high profile jazz artists throughout the year. Once representatives from the Foundation had seen The Daffodil, they knew it was the perfect choice for a Mitch Winehouse concert.”
“The line-up for this concert will be piano, double bass, drums, trumpet and guitar. Knowing Mitch’s passion for classic jazz singers like Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, I’m delighted that Clive Morton will be in the band on double bass, especially as Clive actually performed with Frank Sinatra back in the 1960s.”
The concert takes place at The Daffodil on Tuesday 1st May 2012. Ticket price includes Taittinger Champagne & canapés reception, a delicious three-course dinner followed by the Mitch Winehouse concert. There will also be an auction and raffle during the evening, with all proceeds going to support The Amy Winehouse Foundation.
Tickets for the event are very limited and cost £100 each.
