GLOUCESTER Cathedral will be rocking to the sound of 1,000 teenagers in a night of music, prayer and circus skills.
The historic building is staging a "Rock the Cathedral" event on Friday March 16 which aims to promote faith and social justice.
Top Christian bands will create a buzzing atmosphere with the nave transformed into a rock venue and the chapter house hosting an acoustic stage.
Steve Jarvis, Dicocesan Youth Development Officer said: “The aim of Rock the Cathedral is to bring together mission, discipleship and social justice. Being a Christian includes practising unconditional service towards others as a witness to God’s love and I hope this event will really inspire young people to get involved.”
The dynamic line up includes big names Chip K (thebandwithnoname), Chaos Curb Collaboration, Philippa Hanna, firefalldown, Sounds of Salvation and Brought into Being.
In addition there will be a sports cage , interactive prayer zones, circus skills workshop, Cafe and there will be a number of local national organisations engaging the teenagers in social action and homelessness projects.
The Bishop of Tewkesbury, the Rt Revd John Went encourages teenagers and youth groups to get involved.
He said: “As we reflect on the enormous suffering and hardship experienced by so many both in this country and across the world, we are so aware of the many privileges many of us enjoy especially here in and around Gloucestershire.
"Part of our Christian discipleship is too see ourselves as stewards of all God has entrusted to us and to care in practical ways for those who are disadvantaged in so many ways. "I hope that across the Diocese throughout 2012 there will be many initiatives by young people helping you to identify in some small way with those for whom life is really hard.” Tickets are £5 (or £20 for 5 in advance) and are available from sjarvis@glosdioc.org.uk or on 01452 835582.
The event starts at 7pm and ends at 11pm.
