COLD weather left visitors wanting to see annual snowdrop collection disappointed.
Despite the flowers failing to emerge from the ground following icy conditions, a brave few still made the trip to the gardens at Colesbourne Park on Saturday.
But the weather meant the gardens, which had opened and were raising money through brews of tea to help the Alzheimer's Society, had to close yesterday.
Sir Henry Elwes, who owns the house and grounds, said 170 visitors wrapped up against the cold to make the trip to the park.
Sir Henry said: "There is always a risk of this kind of weather in February.
"Although the snowdrops tend to go into the ground during the cold, they soon come back up.
"We had to close a bit early on Saturday as we were worried about drivers getting up the hill with the snow, but I am sure the visitor figures will average out throughout the year."
The gardens support different local charities throughout the year and next weekend funds will be raised by the tea stall for Cotswold Care.
On February 18 and 19, the beneficiary will be the Cobalt appeal, the following week funds will help Cheltenham North Rotary Club, while on March 3 and 4 Colesbourne will benefit.
The snowdrops were originally planted by Henry John Elwes in the late 19th century.

I sometimes read John Grimshaw's blog, he has more information about the difficulties the weather caused to the Colesbourne.Park open days.
Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have. The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.
