MEET fantastic Fraser Bawtree – the young mastermind behind a fabulous fudge company in Cheltenham.

When the 11-year-old Balcarras pupil needed some quick cash to go on a school trip to Paris, he started selling bits of the sweet-tasting treat to schoolmates to raise a few pounds.

Concocting a variety of flavours – from rum and raisin to popping candy, Malteser and chocolate marshmallow – his exploits soon became the talk of the classroom.

Now, his fudge has proved so popular Fraser has launched the business online.

The budding entrepreneur, from Fairview, said: "I'm really pleased with how it has gone.

"It have always enjoyed cooking at home – especially sweet things like cookies, cakes and fudge.

"Mum and Dad said I could go on the school trip if I earned some money to go towards it, so I thought making some to sell would be a good way of contributing towards that.

"Everyone said they loved it so then I thought why not turn it into a proper business?

"I never expected it to be so popular but it has done really well.

"I have already raised enough money to pay for my school trip and lots of other things as well."

Fraser, who is dyslexic, says there have been all sorts of benefits to his school work from running the business. But he added it showed you didn't have to be traditionally academic to do well in business.

"Working out costs and profit margins all helps me with my maths," he added.

"Mum helps me with the marketing but I do all the rest.

"The whole thing has been great fun and I'm hoping it can continue."

He is already planning to run a fudge stall at Cheltenham's Food and Drink Festival this summer. And with Valentine's Day around the corner he is hoping for a rush of orders over the next few weeks.

He says his ultimate aim is to raise enough money to pay a visit to his uncle in Shanghai, China.

Parents Tim and Zoe Bawtree said they were "extremely proud" of Fraser's efforts. Tim, 40, said: "He has done really well. He has always enjoyed cooking and learned how to make fudge with his grandad, who has now sadly died. From selling it at school it has taken on a life of its own and grown into a proper business.

"When we said he was going to have to earn some money for the school trip I thought it meant my car would get washed a few times.

"Unfortunately that hasn't happened.

"But he has allowed us to test some of the flavours, so I suppose I shouldn't complain."
