CALLS have been made for a new CCTV camera to be installed in Matson following a spate of antisocial behaviour.
In the last two weeks, residents who live in the ground-floor flats in Matson Avenue have been tormented by youths knocking on their doors and running away, and on one occasion a brick was thrown through a window.
Now, Liam Kelch, chairman of Matson and Robinswood Residents' Group, is calling for a camera to be installed to combat the problem.
He said: "We had a fair bit of antisocial behaviour where the ground-floor flats are over the Christmas period, and it's not on.
"I lived in one of the ground-floor flats there myself for three years, and I had problems too, so I know how bad it can get.
"We are currently talking to police about getting a new CCTV camera up there. We have two by the shops at the moment, but they are concentrating on that area. We now need one to monitor the other side of the road."
He added: "I believe most of the incidents are between 2am and 4am. You get a lot of people moving through the area at that time, mostly coming back from town, and that's when the trouble starts.
"It is not very nice for the residents and we need to sort something out, so I'm meeting with police to see if it can be added to the priorities."
Police officers are currently cracking down on antisocial behaviour in nearby alleyways. A spokesman for Gloucestershire police said: "There have been a couple of reports of children knocking on doors and then running away as well as a single incident involving a brick being thrown through a window, which is, needless to say, completely unacceptable.
