Centre Arts – the new Arts Centre in Cheltenham - Secures the National Exhibition Launch of Hand Signed Limited Edition Album Cover Prints – ‘The Art of the Album’
Centre Arts promotes the ethos of making the arts accessible to all.
Centre Arts launched just earlier this year in the heart of Cheltenham. It offers exhibition space, art and music courses to the local community. This is despite the current economic climate, and the resistance to supporting new ventures in this sphere no matter how community based they are.
Musician Matt King and Artist Zaphira Cormack have achieved this by taking the brave risk of funding Centre Arts entirely by themselves. They hope to get established in the community, and then to look into grants as they build their reputation: http://www.centrearts.co.uk
Centre Arts were looking for an exhibition for December. Hypergallery create and publish hand signed limited edition prints of some of the greatest album cover art of all time: http://hypergallery.com
Matt King of Centre Arts states, “I must say that this exhibition came our way rather fortuitously. Andy Wood, a founder of Hypergallery, had started coming to us to for ukulele lessons. We were looking for an exhibition in the run up to Christmas. Andy looked a little shocked when I asked him if we could mount the exhibition. Let’s face it the Hypergallery exhibition launch is scheduled for the 02 Arena!
Andy diplomatically said he thought it was an interesting idea. He said that he would need to go back to his partners.
To our delight, everyone involved thought it would be great to get behind us. We have big ambitions to make art and music more available to everyone in Cheltenham, even though we’re tiny at the moment. I think that Hypergallery understand what we are doing for the community and are willing to accept that this is not a commercial exercise to create sales.”
Andy Wood of Hypergallery says “We had a three day preview in the West End of London in November and we were going to mothball the exhibition ready for taking it to the 02 Arena early next year. I’m a big admirer of Centre Arts, but to be honest I hadn’t thought of us putting on an exhibition there until Matt suggested it.
We work closely with Peter Gabriel and his company Real World. We publish fine art prints of all his album covers. We put the idea to Real World and they also thought it was a great idea to support Matt and Zaphira’s efforts at Centre Arts …so here we are.”

The Human eye is a wonderful device. With a little effort, it can fail to see even the most glaring injustice.
